"A Flower Blossoms" Mixed Media Canvas by Donna Salazar

Hello my peeps! I made this canvas a while back but it's been a big secret until today! Today is the first day of the Craft and Hobby Association's annual trade show Creativation 2017. I am one of many different designers who created a project for the Gel Press booth using their reusable printing plates and I'm excited to see what everyone has created. I'm really happy with the way that my canvas turned out! I also feel like the quote is very fitting for where I am in my life right now because I'm choosing to blossom for my own joy.

This is the whole canvas. It is 12" x 24" so a fairly large canvas. You can see that the canvas was decoupaged with several different textured monoprints. I painted over the center of the canvas because all the different patterns were distracting from the flowers.

The flowers and vines are 3 dimensional and were stiffened and adhered to the canvas using Girlie Grunge Art Medium. The flowers and butterflies were die cut from multiple different prints made on the Gel Press plates. I used Carnation Creation dies for the flowers and my Cascading Butterflies die for the butterflies.

You can see a video tutorial for making these flowers here: Donna Salazar's Mixed Media Flowers

After the canvas was finished I realized that I would have liked to round the bottom and the rim of the flower pot to make it look more 3 dimensional... so I'll do that on my next canvas for sure.

I love how randomly free flowing the vines turned out.

These little flowers just make me happy!

I hope you enjoyed all the close up photos of this canvas. I am eager to get it back and hang it on my wall!!!
