Coloring with Pigment Powders ~ Mixed Media Card by Tracey Sabella
Hi everyone!! It's Tracey here to share my latest project with Donna's fabulous products. I just adore how many ways I can use Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Pigment Powders. On this feminine mixed media card, I've used them four ways. Read below to learn how I created with them.
Tips & Techniques
The first way I used Donna's Pigment Powders is to combine them with her Colorbox Mix'd Media Inx Jasmine Embossing Powder - 1 part pigment powder to 2 parts embossing powder. I stamped Donna's Spellbinders Flower Bouquet Stamp image with Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx then covered it with the pigment and embossing powder mix and heat set to achieve this gorgeous golden raised edge.
The second way I used them is to create glaze to paint the image by mixing the pigment powders into Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Girlie Grunge Art Medium thinned with water. I adore how you can mix Donna's pigment powders to achieve a myriad of colors. For instance, gold + blue = green for the leaves. The Girlie Grunge Art Medium in the glaze acts as a binder, so no worries about this shimmery color rubbing off.
I stamped a few decorative circles and used the extra glaze on my palette to color them.
The third way I used the is to create a shimmery watercolor wash. I mixed up rose watercolor paint and stirred in a scoop of Wine Pigment Powder. The watercolor adds a little more intensity than pigment powder alone. I brushed it around the paper strips and spritzed with water to help it move around the page. I reverse embossed the background paper with Donna's Spellbinders Medallion Embossing Folder and simply adore the way the shimmery wash settled into the embossed crevices to highlight the gorgeous design. I also brushed the flowers and texture around the clusters with the pigment powder/water color wash.
Here's the fourth and final way I used Donna's Pigment Powder. I mixed gold pigment powder into molding paste to stencil diagonally across the card base. Gold and rose is such a lovely color combination!!
I used Donna's Spellbinders Jumbo Rose Steel Rule Die to cut sheer voile fabric (home decor fabric) to form the outer petals of the larger focal flower. I pulled the petal edges near a candle flame to curl them. I centered three layers of voile petals with a paper flower created with Donna's Bitty Blossoms Die (using the largest die in the set). I also used the middle die in this set to create three more blossoms to cluster below the larger flower. I brushed the flower centers with Girlie Grunge Art Medium and sprinkled with mini art stones, but any kind of microbead, mini beads, or glitter would look great.
One final girlie grunge view.
I hope you've been inspired to pull out your Donna Salazar with Scrapbook
