Tips and Techniques
Don't you just adore these sparkling wings? I cut the top layer from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® 3D Foam Creative Sheets and sprinkled lightly with Donna's Clearsnap Twinkle Dust Glitter. To color the wings, I mixed a small amount of Donna Salazar with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Pink and Blue Pigment powders (2 parts pink to 1 part blue) and rubbed it across the wings. For added shading I applied Donna's ColorBox Berries Mix'd Media Inx.
I cut the back part of the wing from patterned paper. I used an old paint brush to apply a mixture of Donna Salazar with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Girlie Grunge Art Medium into the openings and filled with chunky glass glitter and microbeads. I used mostly purple with a touch of blue towards the tip of the wings.
I've added texture to the top of her dress with Donna's Spellbinders Medallion Embossing folder, then rubbed with Wisteria and Berries Mix'd Media Inx.
I borrowed this technique from Donna. I cut a length of Girlie Grunge Gauze - fraying the bottom edge. I gathered, scrunched, and formed the skirt while brushing it with Girlie Grunge Art Medium, using a heat tool to dry as I formed the shape. Once dry, I brushed the skirt with Wisteria and Berries Mix'd Media Ink. Finally, I dabbed with Clearsnap Glue Gloss and sprinkled with Mixed Berries Twinkle Dust Glitter. I dyed a piece of Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Lace Ribbons for the top and dangled a leaf charm that I painted with gesso and colored with Berries Mix'd Media Inx. The stamped lantern is also sprinkled with Pralines & Cream Twinkle Dust Glitter.
I found this text printed canvas at Michaels - so perfect to color with Donna's Pigment Powders. I created color washes with blue and gold Pigment Powder mixed with water. I added a couple drops of Girlie Grunge Medium to each wash to act as a fixative, so the color will be permanent on the canvas. I randomly applied the two washes across the front and sides of the canvas and spritzed with water to help it flow and blend.
Donna Salazar with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® E-Z Stars are just fabulous. I randomly applied them across the top portion of the canvas and used a fine tip paint brush to apply Blue Pigment powder to each one.
I painted this chipboard flourish with gold and blue pigment powders blended into Girlie Grunge Medium, then the flowers with a mix of pink, wine, and blue pigment powders along with berries Mix'd Media Inx. For a touch of sparkle I dabbed the flowers with Glue Gloss and Mixed Berries Twinkle Dust Glitter as well as nestling chunky glitter, microbeads and prills around the chipboard edges.
One final view.
