Easy "Vintage Book Spine" Projects by Donna Salazar
Hello my lovely peeps!!! I had several vintage book covers and spines from all the book page projects that I've created and I wanted to find a great use for them. I'm sharing the stepped out photo tutorial for the EASY PEASY bookmarks that I've made from vintage book spines. I'm also going to share some photos of the small chest of drawers that I made out of cardboard that has book spine drawer fronts at the end of the post.
I started by removing the spine making sure that I left enough room on the sides to wrap around some of my burlap ribbon.
I cut a piece of burlap ribbon (from my Texture Ribbons pack) to the length of the book spine.
I painted a thick layer of Girlie Grunge Art Medium on the inside of the spine.
I laid the ribbon inside the book spine.
I wrapped the edges around the ribbon and painted a second thick layer of Girlie Grunge Art Medium over the top.
This is what it looked like once it dried.
I flipped the bookmark over and painted a thick layer of Girlie Grunge Art Medium over the front.
After it dried I inked the edges with my Mix'd Media Inx CHOX in Driftwood and Sparrow.
After the bookmarks were finished I punched a hole in the top, added an eyelet, tied some of my organza ribbon (also from the Texture Ribbons pack) in a knot and used a heat gun on the ribbon to make it ruffle.
