Hi everyone! It's Tracey back to share my latest in a series of Scripture Journal Pages. The chipboard pages in Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Denim Art Journal are a dream to work with! I've also created a handcrafted flower using Donna's Spellbinders® Big Blossom and Bitty Bitty Blossoms dies.
"Hope and a Future"
Tips and Techniques
Donna has designed such fabulous flower dies with Spellbinders®. The outer petals are cut with her Jumbo Rose Steel Rule die. It cuts through multiple layers of this thin voile material with ease. I've used three layers cut with the smaller of the two petals from this die. To achieve the curled edges simply pull them near a candle flame. For the center I've cut mulberry paper with Donna's largest Bitty Blossoms die. In the center I squeezed a dab of Home and Hobby Dual Tip Glue into the center of the Bitty Blossom and covered with mini art stones. One of Donna's Dodz XL is perfect to hold this sweet blossom securely in place.
Donna's Spellbinders Always Remember Stamp/Die Combo includes these fabulous leafy flourishes. I cut them from 110 lb white card stock and colored the leaves with Donna's ColorBox® Mix'd Media Inx, first with Stormy, then I blended on Mossy. This combination created the exact green from the background paper. I layered fluffy feathers behind the leaves to add a soft, dreamy touch to this flower cluster.
I stamped the sentiment with Donna's Black Mix'd Media Inx and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The edges of the die cut are rubbed with Stormy Mix'd Media Inx.
***Tip*** When die cutting a stamped image. I stamp out the sentiment first, then place the die(s) over the stamping and hold everything in place with pieces of washi tape before running through my die cut machine. I'm terrible at lining up my stamping, so if I cut first and then stamped, I'm afraid it would be crooked every time.
I layered strips of Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Girlie Grunge Ash Tissue Tape below the sentiment cluster and frayed her Lace Ribbon to tuck behind the sentiment die cut. Don't you just adore the organic feel to this?
This verse has such an encouraging message. I plan to leave my journal open to this page in my studio for inspiration.
I wanted to enhance the natural color of the chipboard, so rubbed it with Stormy Mix'd Media Inx. To add texture I brushed the open areas of the butterfly with Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Girlie Grunge Art Medium - a few at a time, then filled the areas with Prills. You could used any texture product for this technique such a chunky glitter, micro beads, mini art stones . . . Donna's Art Medium will hold any of these products securely in place.
Here's one final look. I cut a 12x12" paper down to 8x10" to fit the journal page and adhered the paper to the journal page with thinned Girlie Grunge Art Medium - half water and half medium. To give the left side and top cut edges a finished look, I stamped with a crackle stamp using Stormy Mix'd Media Inx, then lightly rubbed more of this ink around the entire border. I also randomly stamped a script image across the page.
