Hi Everyone! It's Tracey back with a new project for you today. If you've been following Donna's blog for a while, you know that I've been using her fabulous Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Denim Art Journal to create Scripture pages. Her Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Girlie Grunge Art Medium and Pigment Powders are my go to products these days for mixed media.
"Praise the Lord"
Tips and Techniques
I used Donna's Spellbinders Jumbo Rose Steel Rule Die to cut these petals from one of her Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L canvas banners in the Pennant Set. The flower is stiffened with Girlie Grunge Art Medium and colored with blue and gold Pigment Powders along with red violet watercolor paint. The sentiment is stamped with Donna's Colorbox Truffle Mix'd Media Inx and heat embossed with Truffle Mix'd Media Inx Embossing Powder, then surrounded with a sprinkle of her Clearsnap Sugar Shimmer Twinkle Dust Glitter.
The chipboard pages in Donna's Girlie Grunge Art Journal are substantial and a dream to work with for mixed media. I primed the page with a coat of white gesso.
I have an ancient yellowed, crumbling hymn book that was so well used it was literally falling apart when I received it. I tore strips and snippets from the pages and used Donna's Girlie Grunge Art Medium thinned with water to adhere them to the page, then brushed over this music background with more thinned down Art Medium to protect and strengthen the fragile paper. I also mixed blue pigment powder into some of the thinned Art Medium to randomly brush across the page. I just adore the character that the vintage music adds to the page and Girlie Grunge Art Medium was the perfect adhesive to work with this delicate paper. **Tip** If you're using a newer book or music page, you can give it a yellowed, vintage look by brushing the page with a mixture of gold pigment powder in Girlie Grunge Art Medium.
I added gold Pigment Powder and just a small touch of brown to whipped spackle and scraped it over a doily stencil to get this gorgeous design. I randomly rubbed Patina Mix'd Media Ink and brushed more of the blue Pigment Powder mixture over the raised design. I thought I was finished, but later decided I needed a bit more color, so dropped red violet watercolor paint into the crevices to highlight the texture. I also edged the page with oil pastels.
I had snippets of canvas left over from cutting out the rose for the sentiment, so cut it into thin strips to adhere with Girlie Grunge Art Medium across the page along with some of Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Lace Ribbons. I outlined these strips with a black watercolor pencil and brushed with water to create the shading around them. I also brushed the pieces with Pigment Powders and watercolor paint.
I hope you've been inspired to grab your Donna Salazar Designs
supplies to create a one of a kind mixed media journal page.
